Aethos InfoSheet: Soul-Shark

Soul-Sharks are a subclass of Collectors within the Lesser Demon Ranking.

Average Size: 11-13ft | 160-220lbs

Primitive and skittish, the Soul-Shark gets its name from its jagged and endless teeth, blackish-blue colors, and insatiable appetite. They're one of Aethos' most sought after denizens due to their unique ability to see and gather souls. Unlike the greater majority of demons, Soul-sharks do not need contracts in order to take a living-person's soul. With their highly evolved eyes they can see the soul of a living person as if it was a solid tangible object, and then take it by force. This is not guaranteed to be effective however, as the process is easily interrupted through outside means, and a person may be able to secure themselves as long as their desire to be alive is greater than the demon's desire to take their life. Due to this unusual and highly advantageous ability, more powerful demons often use Soul-Sharks as a tool to their own means. These encounters are fatal more often then not and so in a effort to not be caught by predators, Soul-sharks have evolved powerful legs capable of great speed and agility. The eyes of a Soul-shark are regarded as a delicacy among greater demons who believe eating them may give them the ability to see souls as well. There is however, no evidence to support this theory. As a result the mortality rate of Soul-Sharks is extremely high and to cope they must spawn in the hundreds, with only around 5% making it to maturity.

Soul-Sharks, while not the smartest demons, are able to speak and make tools. They prefer to be alone so that they are harder to spot and live in cracks at the base of cliffs in the Shadow Biome of Aethos. With their dexterous hands they will frequently weave nets out of demon hair and sinew for which to keep the souls they catch. The greatest challenge then becoming getting back to their homes unnoticed. They excel at vocal mimicry and could potentially become fluent speakers if someone bothered to teach them. Due to their mortality rate they grow fast and die fast, causing an accelerated evolution that has recently paved way for a darker skinned and more intelligent strain of the species.

The Soul-Shark is a lightweight due to how it evolved out of flight in order to evolve its super eyes. This means a muscular human could probably best it in combat despite its towering size. Soul-sharks are also notoriously clumsy.
